The Influence Of Influencers

We are shaped by all the different influences we encounter in life, and we never know what kind of impact any person can have on us and what we can have on them. However, we do have the ability to mold and influence our own future.

In this episode, Ron Mitchell discusses how to be an “architect for change,” learn from experiences and ask questions, and welcome adversity in order to be changed by it. From the adversities we face and the people we meet, we are both influenced and motivated to move forward and in turn have an influence on somebody else.

Conversations About Race

Some may find it difficult or uncomfortable to talk about race, but why does it seem this way? While it may come down to understanding the history or developing a common language to use, having conversations about race should be something we are not afraid of.

In this episode, April discusses the internalized conceptions we have about race, where they come from, and what we can do to alter or reframe them. Although we may not believe in the conceptions that have been passed down from generations, they are still ingrained in us, and it is up to us to educate ourselves in order to deviate from them.

Competitive Vs. Collaborative Culture

Competition is all around us, and we learn about it from a very early age. Although there are negative connotations surrounding competition and conflict, Sejar Thakkar argues that a little conflict can actually be very productive.

Competition can be healthy or divisive, and understanding the difference can mean understanding how to progress in both a competitive and a collaborative environment. Thakkar describes how competition can challenge you to do better and move forward - especially within an organization - but also how collaboration can promote a higher morale and diversity and inclusion.

Establishing Conversations About Black Lives Matter

As the Black Lives Matter movement progresses, we may wonder how to educate ourselves on this topic or figure out ways to address it. While there are those trying to think of ways they can get involved, there may be others who don’t feel they know enough to develop an opinion.

In this episode, LaChelle discusses creating a dialogue to talk about our different experiences, knowing people’s agendas before you join a movement, and seeing people based on their character. With all of these ideas in mind, we can have enlightened conversations about people’s lives based on different variables and make a change in the world.

Conversations to Have for Change

It may be difficult to find a way to talk about certain topics without feeling uncomfortable, but it is necessary to still have that conversation in order to learn and grow from it. With current movements in the world such as Black Lives Matter, now more than ever is important to have these conversations.

In this episode, Quentin discusses what he’s learned from his relationship with his father, communicating about topics amongst people of different diversities, and making a space to have these emotional conversations. By establishing a dialogue for these conversations, we can have interactions that can benefit one another to grow.

Pursuing the Ultimate Version of Ourselves

How do we know what the ultimate version of ourselves is, and how do we get there? In pursuing the journey of becoming a better version of us, we must be able to recognize what that means and how our values can impact that view.

Jessi takes this episode to discuss topics such as why she calls herself a “work in progress,” challenging yourself in order to grow from failure, and realizing how to understand yourself and recognize opportunity. All of these points contribute to describe ways in which we can be comfortable in our skin and live our lives the way we want to.

Understanding and Expressing Emotions

We are not always aware of the effects that our emotions can have. While we may prefer to be in an environment, internal or external, that we can control, we never know the impact that we may end up having on ourselves or others.

In this episode, Joshua discusses why some people - specifically men - struggle to express their emotions, how repressing emotions can influence who we are, and how experiences shape how we express these emotions.

Since we are constantly changing, we must be aware of the change our emotions go through and how to handle them in order to not get caught up in a moment.

Maintaining Inclusion and Making Your Voice Heard

During this difficult and confusing time of reopening the country, you may feel overwhelmed or disconnected from the rest of the world, but it is important to maintain control of your life and make sure that you are being heard. In this episode, Susan Ganz talks what makes a leader, being a part of a community, and being aware of what’s happening.

Now maybe more than ever is a necessary time for a community, and Ganz describes the importance of having a space to feel connected and appreciated. In satisfying people’s needs for certainty and connection, having this inclusion can make us feel secure and visible amidst conditions that are out of our control.
